Q

how can it explain criminal behaviour

A

Attention- role model must have attention and the behaviour - should be observed
retention - the observer must be able to retain a memory of observed behaviour
reproduction - observer must have the ability to reproduce learned behaviour
motivation- must be a motivation for observer to reproduce

highlights the importance of the cognitive thinking processes of a person, someone may choose not to commit a crime immediately after observing it; the behaviour can happen much later. if news or crime programmes document some of the negative consequences of committing an offence, this may work towards encouraging an individual not to try the offence to seek a pos outcome.

Q

evidence

A

bandura
CA= experimental evidence can also be criticised for only examining the short term effects of exposure to aggressive role models and the long term effects have not been established. although a child may imitate the behaviour of an aggressive tv character, it is unlikely they will grow up and continue to display aggression as a result.

A

:) uses scientific research for example bandora.
the theory is based on lab research methods that ensure control over variables and allows inferences about cause and effect to be made. this means we can be sure that it is the manipulation of the IV that has caused the change in the DV, which increases the internal validity of supporting evidence.
:( reductionist
reducing behaviour to the mere observation and imitation of others.
underestimates the role of bio factors . eg excessive levels of test can be the cause of highly aggressive behaviour. therefore the explanation is too simplistic and cannot fully account for all criminal behaviour.
