Social Learning Theory Flashcards
Social learning theory definition
Describes learning via not only operant and classical conditioning, but imitation, observing indirect reinforcement of other’s behaviour, modelling & thinking
Define imitation
Copying others behaviour
Define identification
When a person associates themselves with a role model and wants to be like them
Define modelling
- imitating the behaviour of a particular role model
OR
- a person can MODEL behaviour that may be copied by an observer
Define Vicarious Reinforcement
Learning from seeing the model being either reinforced or punished - not directly experienced by the observer
What are the 4 mediational processes?
- attention
- retention
- motor production
- motivation
What is the main assumption of SLT?
All behaviour is learned
What did Bandura’s experiment involve?
- recorded the behaviour of young children
- aggression was conducted towards a Bobo Doll
- showed videos of adults being aggressive towards the doll
Which aspects of SLT does Bandura’s study show?
- imitation
- modelling
- identification
- vicarious reinforcement
Define attention
the extent to which we NOTICE certain behaviours
Define retention
how well the behaviour is REMEMBERED
Define motor production
the ability of the observer to PERGORM the behaviour
Define motivation
the desire to perform the behaviour, this depends on whether it has been seen to be rewarded or punished
