Define “social issues”
Widespread behavior that is unacceptable and affects society in a negative way and cannot easily be solved.
What is substance abuse?
The use of illegal substances/prescription drugs that are not used for the right purpose or used too much
Give 3 possible causes of substance abuse
Experimentation/Curiosity, peer pressure, and copying of role models
What are some consequences of substance abuse
Increase in crimes, destruction of families, health issues, increase spending by the government
What are some ways in which substance abuse could be solved or reduced in a society
Education programs, laws with penalties for possession, laws with penalties for selling to juveniles (children)
Define human trafficking
the illegal abduction of a person usually for illegal actions such as harvesting organs

underage girl becoming pregnant (13-19) yrs
Cause of teen pregnancy?
peer pressure, dysfunctional homes, abuse in home, poverty, low self esteem, curiosity/experiment
effects of teen pregnancy?
places stress on the country’s financial resources
disruption in education of the teen moms
higher rates of poverty

Solutions for teen oregnancy?
involvement un extra-curricular activities
teaching sex education in schools
promotion of contraception and safe sex for teens

the abuse of a child physically, sexually, or mentally by a parent or guardian
