social influence
what are the three type of social influence?
conformity, compliance, and obedience
change in attitude or behavior to adhere to social norms
conformity
violate the written law or things that are explicity stated (example: speeding on the highway)
explict norm
a non-written, but consciously known law (example: do not talk over people / do not interrupt people)
implicit norm
describes what the average, typical person does in the group (ex: typical style of a person going to class)
descriptive norm
describe what an ideal person should do or how they should behave (ex: getting a smoker to stop because an ideal person does not smoke!)
injunctive norm
the experimenters asked the confederates which lines match the presented line and they answered incorrectly; the participant conformed (76%) conformed and answer incorrectly
