It was used in order to measure a broader range of socialm classes as well as social mobility.
What are the classes in The Hope Goldthorpe Classification?
Service class
1. higher professionals, high grade administrators, managers of large companies and large proprietiors
2. Lower professionals, higher grade technicians, supervisors of non-manual workers, administrators, small business managers
Intermediate class
3. Routine non manual workers
4 Small proprietors ad self employed artisans
5. Lower-grade technicians and supervisors of manual workers
Working class
6. Skilled manual workers
7. Semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers
What is Objective Social Class?
Objective social class is based upon the idea that people can be placed in a social class through the use of a scale and measurement device.
What is Subjective Social Class?
Subjective social class differs in that it is based upon what people think they are themselves.
