Social Development
The process of learning to get along with others
Stranger Anxiety
A fear of unfamiliar people, usually expressed by crying
Solitary Play
When a child is playing alone
Parallel Play
When children play near, but not actually with, other children
Cooperative Play
Children play and interact with one another
Imaginary Friends
Used by children to examine their own thoughts and feelings; May be used to share their feelings about something or work through negative feelings
Autonomy
Independance; Wanting to be able to do things for themselves
Peer
Someone close to one’s own age
Moral Development
The process of learning to base one’s behavior on beliefs about what is right and wrong
Cause And Effect
A relationship between events in which one event, te effect, is caused by another event
Emotional Development
The process of learning to recognize and express feelings and to establish a personal identity
Temperment
A person’s unique emotional makeup; Helps determine how you react to your environment
Self-Centered
Thinking about one’s own needs and wants and not those of others
Negativism
Doing the opposite of what others want; caused by the desire for independance, frustration, and the realization of being a seperate person
Separation Anxiety
The fear of being away from parents, familiar caregivers, or the normal environment
