What is a social democratic approach?

The social democratic approach is a Marxist, left wing (Labour) political perspective. Social democrats emphasise the need for equality of opportunity and welfare provision (e.g. benefits). Not everyone has the same start in life – some are disadvantaged, while others have plenty of money. The government must create ‘a level playing field’ so that everyone has an equal chance to succeed at school.
