what is general deterrence?

A

To prevent potential for offender from committing a crime. Often Weakened as it relates to someone else, people are not always aware of not so serious sentence as media does not cover it. Seen by harsh sentences during 2011 London riots.

For example two men age 21 & 22 were jailed for 4 years for inciting disorder on Facebook. Also 23 year old man jailed for 6 months for stealing £3.50 worth of water.

17

A

the effects of legal punishment on those individuals who actually undergo the punishment.
