Social Conditioning Flashcards
Neutral Stimulus
Initially causes no reaction
Classical Conditioning
Learning process that occurs through associations between an environmental stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus
Unconditioned Stimulus
Produces a response w/o conditioning
Naturally
Unconditioned Response
Automatic or inherent response
Conditioned stimulus
Through conditioning now
Learning a response to a previously neutral stimulus
Conditioned Response
Response to stimulus through conditioning
Pavlov’s Dogs
BEFORE~ Bell rings (ns) -no reaction Smell food (ucs)- salivation (ucr) CONDITIONING~ Smell food(ucs)+bell(ns)- salivation(ucr) AFTER~ Bell ringing(cs)- salivation(cr)
Operant Conditioning
Method of learning that occurs through rewards and punishments for behavior.
Association is made between a behavior and a consequence for that behavior
How many types of operant conditioning?
Positive reinforcement
Negative reinforcement
Punishment
Extinction
Positive Reinforcement
Behavior is strengthed by the consequence of experiencing a positive condition
Ex: good grades-> praise-> later curfew
Negative Reinforcement
Behavior is strengthed by the consequence of stopping or avoiding negative condition
Removal of stimulus
Helps you improve
Ex: bad grades->mad->bring grades up to stop the yelling
Punishment
Behavior is weakened by the consequence of experiencing a negative condition
Ex: hot stove-> burnt
NEGATIVE, NEGATIVE
Extinction
Behavior is weakened by the consequence of not experiencing a positive condition condition or stopping a negative condition
Social conditioning
Focusing on the individual
Attempts to explain how the thoughts feelings and behaviors of an individual are influenced by other people
