Sovereignty

Collective rights
rights held by a group as a whole rather than individually by its members
First Nations
The first people to live in Canada
Annuity
a contract that requires regular payments for more than one full year to the person entitled to receive the payments

A place the government set aside for the First Nations to live
Assimilate
a highly intensive process necessitating constant surveillance of people’s lives, judged according to non-Indigenous standards.

freedoms that cannot be taken away by another person or the government
Ethnocentrism
the belief in the inherent superiority of one’s own ethnic group or culture
