A
- Hutton(1995) has argued that the decline in trade union membership and the manufacturing sector, and the dispersal of working-communities has eroded working class identity.
- Skeggs(1997) studied women who felt humiliated by the ways in which others such as , teachers doctors, judged and dismissed them because of their working class background. So these women made a lot of effort to show that they were respectable, by taking care in how they dress, their leisure pursuits and their home decorations.

Murray(1984) who argues that over generous benefits encourage some people to develop a culture, or a set of norms and values, in which they do not take responsibility for their own actions and have an expectation that they will be looked after by the state.
