Labelling(internal)
•Becker
-Ideal pupil- m/c pupils more likely to fit this characterisation than w/c
-Individuals are characterised and identified based on behaviours
-Positive or negative can have an effect on the individual and how they perceive themselves
-child sometimes takes on the label. AG child labelled bad is going to act bad.
Real life example : tigers and clowns
Streaming (internal)
•w/c pupil more likely to be placed in lower stream
• can affect knowledge that’s taught
• a grade streams use high status language
• low streams use Low status language
• restricts access to elaborated code putting them at a disadvantage
People subcultures (internal)
• in response to labelling and streaming
• anti or pro subs
• Auntie can mean disregarding dress code, etc
Monetisation (internal)
• leads to class difference
• schools receive funding post students and publish league tables
• Schools compete with other schools
• popular school select who they will enroll(m/c)
• working class have no choice but to join unpopular schools
• Leads to a cycle of poor results for working class
