social changes in the family structure Flashcards
change in family structure
Parsons said that
industrialisation led to a transition from extended to nuclear families
he believed that in society all the institutions worked together like organs in the human body in order for society to work properly.
decrease in extended family
extended family would be seen on farms where all members helped out doing their own jobs and home and work were one thing.
but when people started moving to the city to get jobs in factories, work and home were separated. family members would move one by one where they would get paid and this is where the gender division of labour started to emerge,
the man go out to work and get money for the family and the women stays at home to look after the children.
