How has public perception impacted crime?
Many changes in social attitudes have led to renown campaign and policy development.
What are two example of how public perception has impacted policy?
1) Drink driving is now far more stigmatised, and laws like 1967 Road Safety Act have been introduced as a result of campaigns such as, “THINK!” and “Brake”.
2) Smoking is now seen as undesirable, with campaigns such as ASH (Action on Smoking and Health), and the introduction of laws such as Children and Families Act 2014.
How have LGBTQ+ rights changed across history?
Before the 1960’s, same sexual activity was criminal. Homosexual sexual acts were decriminalised. With this came a change in values, due to an increase in individualism, equal rights and secularisation. Legal changes that followed this were 1994 Equal age of consent, 2005 Civil Partnerships and 2014 Same Sex marriage.
How have social changes impacted racial discrimination?
1965, racial discrimination ion public places was made a criminal offence, the race relations act 1976, 1968 discrimination in employment, housing and public services was made an offence.

How has public perception impacted demographic policy changes?
Discrimination and race hate are now seen as crimes. People are more likely to accept that these should be criminal offences.

There is greater acceptance, and being transgender is no longer regarded as a medical condition

Introduction of the gender recognition act 2004, which allows individuals to change their gender with evidence from a gender recognition panel.
