Positive or negative depending on perspective
Conditions for social change
Insititutions recognize that they will need to change to keep up with the ever changing society
Leadership
The push of social change can come from one powerful person
Gandhi, hitler
They become leaders for multiple reasons: charisma, force of personality, ideas, timing etc .
Modernizing elites
Change usually happens through modernizing elites rather than individuals
Ex: come from what we wear, music etc.
Populace ready for change
Vision of the change must match the moods of public
Values acquired early in life may stay throughout our lives
Impediments of social change : traditional cultural values
Some groups in society may not want to change their ways as it would mean a change in traditional cultural values
