Verstehen is needed to understand complex and unique behaviour.
Who theorized social action theory? Why?
Weber saw both structural and action approaches as necessary for a full understanding of human behaviour, arguing that an adequate sociological explanation involves both; the level of cause, and the level of meaning.
What is meant by level of cause?
Explaining the structural factors that shape people’s behaviour.
What is meant by level of meaning?
Understanding the subjective meanings that individuals attach to their actions.
What are the four types of action?
Instrumental rational action, Value rational action, Traditional action, Affectual action
