Chapter 1 Vocab
Issue
A problem or topic that involves/affects a lot of people, and that raises different opinions and beliefs among people who have researched the topic.
Perspective
A group’s view, or way they see things based on their culture and identity.
Point of View
The way one sees the world, and their beliefs and values, based on what they as a person have been through.
Quality of Life
The state or quality of how one lives. (Their job, home…)
Rights
Rights are outlined in the law, and they protect citizens, and show what they can do within their community
Society
A community of people who live in the same area, and share a common identity and values
Governance
How a country governs itself
Political System
The way a government is organized
Economic System
A system in which a nation arranges production, and administration of goods and services.
Opinon
How an individual feels about a topic.
Criteria
A measure of how something is judged.
Unbiased
When an individuals opinions or beliefs do not affect how they feel about a topic.
Civil service
The body of government officials who serve Canadians as employees of the government
Popular vote
The total votes cast in an election, as different from the total seats won in an election
Senate
The Upper House of Canada’s government with high legislative powers.
