Homogenization
the erasing of differences, often refers to the erasing of cultural differences so that people become more similar
Digital divide
The gap that separate people who do and do not have access to up-to-date digital technology
Slang
Vocabulary that is used between people who belong to the same social group, or that follow youth, pop-culture trends
Indigenous
People inhabiting, or existing in a land from the earliest times, and or for the arrival of colonists
Interdependent
The state of being dependent upon one another, mutual dependence
Individual identity
The unique ways that you define yourself. Elements of identity could include race, ethnicity gender age.

Banana wars
the culmination of a six-year trade quarrel between the US and the EU. The US complained that the EU broke free trade rules by a banana scheme.

The sharing of ideas and concepts, for example, social media, movies, and fashion between and through different countries around the world.

A low paying job that requires a little skill and provides a little opportunity for advancement.

The spread of culture, trends, customs, and practises around the world
CRTC
Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. An independent public organization that regulates and supervisors the Canadian broadcasting and telecommunication system.
Melting Pot
Theory of multiculturalism that assumes that various immigrant groups will tend to melt together, abandoning their individual cultures, and eventually becoming fully assimilated into the predominant society. Example USA.
Global village
Marshall Mcluhan. The growing connections among people around the world
Transnational corporations or multinational corporations
Company that is based in one country, while developing in manufacturing its products, or delivering its goods and services in more than one country
Assimilation
A process that occurs when the culture of a minority group is absorbed by another culture, the cultural identity of the minority group disappears as its members take on the identity of another culture
Political globalization
Effects into continuity of political or relationships around the world, how institutions and countries can influence the whole world example, NATO, UNESCO, WHO, UN
Communication technology
Any tool people used to create transmits store, and share information. Can help indigenous endangered languages
Glocal
Reflecting or characterized by both local and global considerations
Francophone
Of having her belonging to a population, using French as its first or sometimes second language. Being enriched French culture and language.

Multiculturalism
An official Canadian government policy, founded on the idea that Canadian society is pluralistic. Made of many culturally distinct groups who are free to affirm and promote their own cultural identity.

Integration
The process by which separate groups are combined into unified society, especially when this is pursued as a deliberate policy
Anglophone
Consisting of or belonging to an English speaking population, especially in a country where two or more languages are spoken. Being enriched in English culture and language.

Savings that are achieved by producing using, and buying things in large quantities
Allophone
Someone’s who’s first language is neither english or french.
Cultural globalization
The transmission of ideas, meanings and values around the world in such a way to extend and intensify social relations
Boycott
To refuse to buy used or participate in something as a way of protesting
Collective identity
How individuals define themselves as belonging to a group based on markers, such as race, ethnicity culture, gender, socioeconomic class
Accommodation
A process that occurs when people from different cultures come into contact and except and create space for one another. The customs traditions, technology, beliefs, and languages of both cultures may be affected.
Economic globalization
The spread of trade, transportation, and communication systems around the world, in the interests are promoting worldwide commerce.
Endangered language
Language that is at risk of no longer being used as its speakers shift to another language or die out.
Dominance of English
British empire, colonization, English is the most spoken language in the world.
Media convergence
The use of electronic technology to integrate media, such as newspapers books, TV in the Internet.
Media concentration
The gathering of ownership of newspapers and other media, in the hands of few large corporations
Pop culture
Popular culture which refers to the culture of the people. This term often refers to current cultural trends that are spread by commercial mass media.
