Imperialism
Extending a countries power through the use of military force. Another way to say taking over
Historical globalization
The process historically in which the world becomes more interconnected
Mercantilism
Profitable trading. Used in colonization where the colonies traded with the mother country, giving it products for cheap and the mother country giving the same products back for a much more expensive price
Capitalism
A form of a country’s trade system In which the private industries make more profit with less public services. Also known as a market economy
Grand Exchange
The exchange of ideas, foods and also diseases from Europe to the Americas and the same way back. Occurred in the 1400’s
Industrial Revolution
The point in history when the economies went from plant harvesting by hand to huge industries making production easier aswell as more efficient
Legacy
The long-lasting effect of events from the past or even in the present that occurred in a persons life
Ethnocentrism
The belief that ones own culture and religions are superior
Eurocentrism
The European belief that their own culture and religion is superior to all else in the world
Depopulation
The mass reduction of population in an area
Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
The total value of goods and services produced in a country in a certain amount of time. Usually within a year.
Deindustrialization
The decline of industrial activity
Indian Act
Created in 1876 and was used in order to assimilate first nations peoples into a more European society.
Status Indian
The legal status of a person registered under the Indian act
Residential Schools
A boarding school used in order to assimilate and “kill the Indian” of First Nations children
