What is the study of Anthropology?

The study of real lives and understanding how people re-enact their lives.
Involving questions of ethics because we engage theories into real lives

what are the different possibilities that anthropology could be?

- analytical tool for making the world a better/worse place?

who (historically) does anthropology and studies culture (at present)?
Historically, a field predominated by white males, however increasing in diversity.
- must be critical and not dismissive of socio-political and econocmical limitations and considerations that prevent devleopments/opportunities within anthropological research.
link between sociological thinking and anthropology:
anthropological thinking is never detached from the sociological mind in the time frame or the environment of where the anthropologist is situated/living in.
notable findings from Edward Said.
Orientalism (1978) - classic anthropological journal.
- found the concept of considering the anthropological “other”.
- finding that the critique of culture brought home anthropology and the way cultures are perceived and represented.
