what is a drug
A chemical substance that can alter the biological functioning and structure of a living organism. can be man made or natural
legal (licit) drugs example
over the counter, prescription, caffiene, chocolate, tobacco, alcohol
illegal drug examples
cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine
what is Prescription Medication
Can only be purchased when prescribed by a doctor or pharmacist.
what is otc
Non-prescription medicines can be purchased by pharmacy or supermarket.

Depressant, stimulant, hallucinogens
what are depressants? 2 examples
drug that affects the body’s central nervous system by slowing down the messages sent between the brain and the body. (alchahol, cannabis)
what are stimulants? 2 examples
Stimulants speed up brain activity. Stimulants can make you feel more alert and awake by increasing your heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure (caffeine, nicotine, cocaine)
what are hallucinogens? 2 examples
causes areas of the brainto communicate, altering your perception of reality. (magic mushrooms, ecstasy)
what is polydrug use
Polydrug use is when more than one drug is used at the same time or during the same occasion. A polydrug user may mix legal with illegal drugs, or two or more illegal drugs.
what is alcohol?
A recreational drug. Pure alcohol is so strong that its concentration in most alcoholic drinks is relatively low.

Hops and yeast, content - 4-6%
Spirits - what’s it made of? How much content?
Barley and rye, content - 40-60%

What is standard drink?
contains approx 10 grams of alcohol
BAC (blood alcohol concentration)
L and P platers must have BAC level 0, and full license drivers can have under 0.05%
