Conservation easement
A legal document that people sign that prevent development of a piece of land for a specified set of time, even if the property changes possession over that time period
Greenway
A trail that is used for walking, biking, or other recreational purposes. Used to connect locations in cities together, in a natural way. Helps increase non-automotive transport
LEED building
Construction of buildings that use mostly reclaimed materials and focus on the us of highly energy efficient design and materials
Car shares/ bike shares
Program that has users rent or bikes or cars on a per- need basis. Use is short-term and vehicles can then be used by other users
Walking school bus program
A program where students are escorted to school by volunteer parents. Fuel and transportation costs are saved
Verticals construction and design
Construction of buildings that focuses on designing high buildings, to fit more functions in the building and have less of a footprint on the land
Rapid rail transit system
Transportation systems that focus on moving lots of people to various locations. Usually focus is put on trying to expedite the journey, to attract customers
Personal rapid transits systems
Transportation system in which individual pods transport people to destinations. Similar to monorail systems throughout a city, except each monorail car is for an individual, making personalized stops
Urban growth boundaries or greenbelts
An urban boundary placed around a city to designate an area where development will not continue past in order to preserve natural features
Brownfield
Piece of land that was abandoned at some point or had waste issues that has been cleaned up and reused or redeveloped again
