Smart And Modern Materials Flashcards
Thermochromic
Changes colour based on temperature. An example of a thermochromic product is “stick on thermometers” that change colour based on body temperature.
Photochromic
Changes colour based on the intensity of light. An example of a photochromic product is “Reactolite” lenses that darken in intense light.
Electrochromic
Changes colour based the amount of electricity applied. An example of an electrochromic product is “dim-able windows” that can be darkened when a current flows.
Phosphorescent
A material that absorbs light and then remits it when it gets dark. An example of a phosphorescent product is “glow-in-the-dark clock hands”.
Smart Material
A material that responds to a stimulus.
Stimulus
A thing or event that causes a change or reaction.
