What was happening in the Napo region 1991?
Being destroyed by combination of oil exploitation + rainforest tourism = threatening the Quicha’s traditional lifestyle
Why was the ecotourism project developed?
An attempt to strengthen the community + create a sustainable income for indigenous people
Rules + Regulations
Exchanges of clothing or personal items with community members is not allowed
Visitors must avoud displays of affection even with close friends
Animals + plants must not be collected without permission
All rubbish must be taken away with visitors
When walking in the rainforest:
Not to touch branches without out checking first
Not to pull on branches
If need the loo go to side of track not near river

What did the money from tourism do?
Led to major improvements to services in the villages
What have the Quicha done?
Used their expert knowledge of forest as the basis for guided tours
They have trained their children, via ecological training programme in village school, to recognise plants + their uses
