SLR camera test
Camera

Camera body

Film advance lever
pulls your film across the back of the camera one frame at a time by moving the film advance sprockets and the take up reel.
Counter
Keeps track of how many times the film advance lever has moved.
Shutter release button
opens the shutter.
shutter speed dial
Controls the length of time the shutter is open (measured in fractions of a second)
ASA/ISO dial
controls the light meter by telling it how sensitive your film is too light.
Self Timer
Delays the shutter opening up by 8-10 seconds.
Hot shoe
Electronic connection for flash attachment
View finder
allows you to look through the lens.
Light Meter
Found in the view finder, when balanced, it tells the photographer which F-stop and shutter speed combinations are best for that lighting.
Rewinder
Pulls the film back into the cassette.
Camera back release
Opens camera for loading film (usually incorporated into the re-winder)
Rewind release button
Allows the film advance sprockets to move freely so that you can rewind your film back into the cassette without tearing it. (MOST IMPORTANT BUTTON)
Tripod mount
allows a tripod to be mounted on the camera.
Battery compartment
stores the battery which controls the electronic functions of your camera (from light meter to everything on the camera)
Lens
collects, projects, and focuses the light
Lens release button
allows removal of the lens from the body (removing will not expose your film.
Focusing Ring
adjusts lens to provide clear view of subject(textured)
Depth of Field scale
tells you depth of focus in your composition and is based on the F stop that the camera is set to.
Aperture ring
controls the lens opening size and measure in F stops (bigger the # the smaller the hole, Smaller the # the bigger the hole)
Film Spool
Holds the film cassette
Shutter
A door that opens to expose the film to light, when its closed it protects the film from light.
Film advance sprocket
pulls the film across the back of the camera one frame at a time and prepares the shutter to be released (resets the shutter)
Take up reel
pulls on and stores exposed film
