Slopes Flashcards
What is hillside relief?
Hillslope relief is the decrease in elevation between mountain summits and the point where channels begin.
What is tributary channel relief?
Tributary relief
is the elevation decrease along the tributaries
What is trunk relief?
Trunk channel relief is the decrease from the highest tributary to the end of the channel.
Steep channels are cause by?
In steep, wet terrain, stream power overcomes resistance to erosion. Bedrock hardness becomes the principal factor in resistance to erosion
When is stream power and resistance to erosion are in balance?
Where slopes are gentler, sediment begins to be deposited
When the resistance to erosion is higher than stream power?
Where slopes are much flatter, the stream bed builds up and fills the valley with sediment.
