Q

HISTORY OF THE DIGITAL TV

A

Television broadcasters have transmitted signals based on the “NTSC standard”
(National Television Systems Committee)
- Remained unchanged until it was adopted by the FCC (Federal Communication
Commission) in 1941
- The most significant modification had been the Colour TV in 1953 with ghost
canceling. (Ghost - a television signal split into multiple paths between transmitter
and receiver.)
- Television engineers wanted to upgrade the existing NTSC standard, however
Congress and the FCC showed little interest on the topic.
- Mid 1980s the Japanese electronic firms forged ahead with the development of the
HDTV technology
- The old analogue system was removed by congress and FCC and HDTV was
declared better in 1998
- This brought on the huge development of TVs as many have become larger and
thinner TVs

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS TO

DIGITAL TV

A
  • Over-the-top video distribution ~ refers to delivery of video, audio and other media
over the Internet without a multiple system operator being involved in the control or
    distribution of the content.
  • The “second screen” one of the most exciting developments in television & Media,
second screen technologies built initially on iPads and extended to the vast
improvements of devices we’ll see in the next 3 – 5 years a second screen refers to
the use of a computing device to provide an enhanced viewing experience for
content on another device, this term commonly refers to the use of such devices to
provide interactive features during “linear” content, such as a television program,
served within a special apps like CBC, Sports and many other types.
  • Gaming & TV, there is no other way to say this but it can only get better, the quality
of Games and TV will both increase.

Q

HOW LONG WILL IT

LAST?

A

Digital TV will last for a long time, as it is still being improved
and used by many people around the world and with it
changing, improving and new features added its hard to say
when digital TV will stop.
The most I can say is Digital TV will probably stop when we
start watching TV and Movies on Holograms instead of a TV
screen.
