slides #2 Flashcards
what is primary healing
process of primary intention
bridge of cells bind together the nearby wound edges (faster with less scar tissue)
what is secondary healing
process of secondary intention
larger wound gap is filled in from the bottom tissues and from the sides to bridge the gap (takes longer with more scar tissue)
what are the 3 healing phases
inflammation
proliferation
remodeling
when do athletes normally come back
proliferation phase
what happens in inflammation phase
stabilization
5 days
what are the signs of inflammation
redness, heat, pain, swelling, loss of function
when does the proliferation phase start?
when the macrophages are done and angiogenisis starts
what happens during the remodeling phase
myofibroblasts contract the wound to tighten and make it smaller
