Sleep onset insomnia is difficulty falling asleep. Cannot fall alspee within 30mins, 3 nights a week, 3 months
Sleep walking involves performing behaviours while asleep. During stages 3 and 4 so first third of sleep.

Rotating shift work
Rotating shift work is change between day to night shifts frequently. Better is long periods on each so person can adjust.

CIRCADIAN SLEEPWAKE CYCLE DISTURBANCE
Travelling west is best because less mismatch between our bioclock and external environment.
Effects of partial sleep deprivation
AFFECTIVE, BEHAVIOURAL, COGNITIVE
Affective = lack of emotional regulation, emotional outbursts, overreactions, agression
Behavioural = sleep inertia (grogginess, low alertness), lack of energy, slower reaction time, microsleeps
Cognitive = hard to divide attention, hard to make decisions.
Interventions to treat sleep disorders
CBT and BRIGHT LIGHT THERAPY
CBT: replace thoughts and behaviours that cause or wosen insomnia with onces that promote sleep. including sleep hygiene.
Bright light therapy:
For delayed sleep phase: 6-8am
For advanced sleep phase: 5-6pm
For shiftwork sleep disorder: 5-6pm and avoid daylight at end of shift.
For jet lag: east = morning, west = evening
