the slave owners were very strict and punished slaves using cruel punishments, such as physical/corporal punishments, starvation, or forced them to work longer
if wanted to run away they were simply given harsher punishments

A

it was difficult to stand together
during 1800 2 small organised uprisings by slaves while under british rule
another uprising took place in 1808 by 2 slaves (louis van Mauritius and Abraham van der Caab) marched to cape town along with 300 slaves to demand their freedom
the second uprising took place on a farm in 1825 ( Galant van der Caab and another few slaves) were sentenced to death
