Poverty in Africa grew. Lots of people lived near old trading routes but they stopped being used and people living there lost their income and livelihood (necessities for living). People were frightened and threatened by warfare and tried to escape the raiders and the battles by moving into remote areas with poor soil that produced few crops.

17

How was crime and punishment in Africa affected by Slavery?

A

Chiefs invented new crimes and were really strict and the punishment for these crimes was becoming a slave. The objective of this was to enslave more people.

18
Q

How was kidnapping in Africa affected by Slavery?

A

As the demand for slaves increased, there was more kidnapping. People lived with fear and constant threats.

19
Q

How did Slavery change Africa? How long do you think those effects lasted?

A

Africa was a modern, rich, safe and fertile continent with a very good quality of life. Slavery made it a dangerous, poor and hostile place to live in. I think Africa is still under the effects of slavery today because it is the poorest country in the world.
