What was a scramble?
When there were left over enslaved people from th auction so they put them in a pen and people paid a set amount to go into the pen at the same time as lots of other people and they had to fight to try and grab the best slaves for themselves.
What were the three main stops on the triangular trade and what did they transport between each other?
Manufactured goods e.g. Guns, pots or pans from Europe to North-West Africa. Enslaved people and some goods made in Africa from Africa to the Americas. Raw materials from the Americas to Europe e.g. Sugar, Tobacco and Cotton.
Describe the living conditions of a slave working in the fields.
Small wooden huts with little to no furniture, very cramped, straw to sleep on and little food.
What was the underground railroad?
A series of safehouses where escaped slaves could stay for a while while they made their way to North America where slavery was banned.
Describe conditions in the hold of a ship for the slaves on the middle passage.
Cramped, little breathing space body to body and smell so bad that even the crew would avoid going don there.
What was tight packing?
Slaves lying on their sides with their noses to the back of the person in front of them.
