Skull and Neck Anatomy Flashcards
What cranial nerves exit through the jugular foramen?
CN IX, X, and XI exit the skull through the jugular foramen.
Where does CN I exit the skull?
CN I exits the skull through the cribriform plate
What cranial nerve exits the skull through the foramen rotundum?
CN V-2
What cranial nerve exits the skull through the foramen ovale?
CN V-3
Where do CN VII and CN VIII exit the skull
CN VII and VIII exit the skull through the internal auditory meatus
Where does CN XII exit the skull?
CN XII exits the skull through the hypoglossal canal
What nerves are you testing with the corneal reflex?
The corneal reflex tests CN V and C VII. The afferent limb of this reflex is carried by the trigeminal nerve. The facial nerve innervates the muscles of facial expression and is responsible for cloure of the eye in this reflex. The facial nerve exits the skull through the stylomastoid foramen
What nerves are you testing with the gag reflex?
the gag reflex involves CN IX and X. CN IX carries general sensor innervations as well as taste sensation from the posterior 1/3 of the tongue. It also innervates the carotid bodies, carotid sinuses, and the parotid gland. Its only motor output is to the stylopharyngeus muscle.
