Annular
circular, begins in the center and spreads to periphery
Ex: Ringworm (tinea corporis)
Confluent
lesions that run together
Ex: Hives (urticaria)
Discrete
Distinct individual lesions that remain separate
Ex: Skin tag, Acne
Gyrate
Twisted, coiled, spiraled, snake-like
Ex: Rheumatic Fever
Grouped
Cluster of lesions
Ex: Contact Dermatitis, Vesicles
Linear
Scratch, streak, line, or stripe
Ex: Scratch lol
Target
aka Iris
Resembles iris of the eye and has concentric rings of color in the lesions
Ex: Spider bite
Zosteriform
A linear arrangement along a unilateral nerve route
Ex: Herpes Zoster
Polycyclic
Annular lesions that grow together
Ex: Psoriasis
Macule
Color change but stays flat and circumcised, less than 1 cm
Ex: Freckle, Hypopigmentation, Measles, Flat nevi, petechiae, scarlet fever
Patch
Macule larger than 1 cm
Ex: Mongolian spot, vitiligo, cafe au lait spot, chloasma, measles
Nodule
solid, elevated, hard or soft, larger than 1 cm. may extend deeper into dermis than papule.
Ex: xanthoma, fibroma, intradermal nevi
Tumor
Larger than a few centimeters in diameter, firm or soft, deeper into dermis; may be benign or malignant.
Ex: lipoma, hemangioma
Papule
Solid, elevated, circumscribed, less than 1 cm in diameter. Caused by superficial thickening in epidermis.
Ex: elevated nevus (mole), lichen planus, molluscum, wart (verruca)
Plauque
papules coalesce to form surface elevation wider than 1cm. plateaulike, disk shaped
Ex: psoriasis, lichen planus
