Small pinpoint (1 to 3 mm) reddish-purple spots
Petechiae (Vascular)
Collection of blood in the dermis greater than 3 mm in diameter. Initially reddish-purple, but will change to blue or yellow during healing
Ecchymosis (vascular)
Collection of petechiae and ecchymosis covering an area.
Purpura (vascular)
Small (less than 1 cm diameter) area of pigmentation change.
Macule (flat)
Larger (greater than 1 cm diameter) area of pigmentation change
Patch (flat)
Small (less than 1 cm diameter) area
Papule (raised)
Larger (greater than 1 cm diameter) disc shaped area
Plaque (raised)
Irregular area of edema on the skin
Wheal (raised)
Small (less than 2 cm) firm area arising from deeper in the dermis
Nodule (raised)
Larger (greater than 2 cm) firm area arising from deeper in the dermis
Mass (raised)
Small (less than 1 cm in diameter) superficial, filled with serous fluid
Vesicle (Raised-Fluid Filled)
Larger (greater than 1 cm in diameter) superficial, filled with serous fluid
Bulla (raised-fluid filled)
Small (less than 1 cm in diameter) superficial, filled with purulent fluid
Pustule (raised-fluid filled)
Encapsulated, arising from dermis or subcutaneous layer, filled with liquid or semi-solid fluid
Cyst or Abscess (raised-fluid filled)
Thickened and elevated skin caused by long-term, intense scratching or rubbing
Crust (Debris on Surface of Skin)
