Acne
- disease of the sebaceous glands that produces blackheads and pimples
- Noninflammatory or inflammatory pustules
Psiorasis
- Red & inflamed skin
- White/ silvery scaly patches
- Can itch, crack, bleed
- Disease of the immune system
Eczema
- Dry, red skin that itches or burns
- Intense itching
- Blisters, oozing lesions
- Dry, scaly skin
- Thickened, crusty skin
Dermatitis
-Inflammation of the skin
itchy, inflamed, causing redness, swelling, cracking, crusting and scaling
-occupational related
Tinea Pedis
AKA ATHLETES FOOT
- caused by a ringworm fungus
- usually in the skin or of toes and soles
- when areas stay moist, warm and irritated
Urticaria
- HIVES
- allergic reaction to the skin that produces reddish, elevated patches
- round or rings
- welts, or red lesions with a flare around
Rosacea
- facial condition
- red/pink skin, visible broken blood vessels, small red bumps, red cysts or pink/irritated eyes
Vitiligo
- pigmentation disorder
- melanocytes are destroyed
- white patches appear over the body
- can be on places with mucous membranes too
Impetigo
- Very contagious, spreads from person to person
- One or more “sores” on the skin that are covered by honey colored crust
- don’t hurt, can be itchy
- mostly limbs and face
- more in summer on little kids
Boils
- Aka skin abscess
- firm & hard area
- center softens and fills with pus
Bacterial infection of the skin, produced when bacteria enter a hair follicle
Carbuncles
- A collection of pis that forms inside the body
- Needs to be drained, not treated by antibiotics
Ringworm
Fungal Infection
Round ring like lesions
Warts
Local growths in skin, caused by HPV
Contagious
Usually one part of the body
MRSA
Staph Infection
HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS
Boils
Infection immediately under the skin
Gangrene
Lack or loss of blood flow to an area
Wet= bacteria infection, possibly fatal, swelling, pain, pus, black coloration
Vs dry
