Necrobiosis Lipoidica, what condition do you get it in?
diabetes
what is Necrobiosis Lipoidica?
Firm, waxy, red / brown or yellow plaques on anterior shin.
Associated with increase risk of ulceration
Acanthosis Nigricans, what conditions?
Diabetes, addisons, malignancy (DAM)
Purple brow, indurated waxy plaques on anterior shins
pre tibial myxoedema
Pyoderma gangrenosum, which conditions?
IBD and rheumatoid
what does kaposis sarcoma look like?
purple brown nodules
when do you get kaposis sarcoma?
HIV/ immunosuppression
SJS and TENS are variant of the same disease. how do you diferentiate between them?
the extent of skin involvement. steven johnston is less than 10 percent involvement, whereas TENS is over 30 percent
why are sjs and tens potentially life threatening ?
there is widespread erythema and blistering of the skin and mucosal surfaces. the blisters then merge, undergo necrosis and large sheets of skin are lost
most common drug reactions causing TENS or sjs
penicillin
NSAIDS
anti convulsants - lamotrigine and valproate
management of SJS and TENS
cessation of causative drug
supportive care
emollients
IV Ig
