Skin and Body Membranes Flashcards
Adapted for absorption or secretions.
Mucous Membrane
allows the organs to slide easily across the cavity walls and one another without friction as they carry out their functions
SEREOUS FLUID
also called covering and lining membranes
epithelial membranes
also known as (mucosa)
Mucous Membrane
also known as (serosa)
Serous Membrane
also line small sacs of connective tissue bursae and the tube-like tendon sheaths.
Synovial Membranes
always combined with an underlying layer of connective tissue, although they all do contain an epithelial sheet
Epithelial Membranes
both of these structures cushions organs moving against each other during muscle activity – movement of tendon across the bone’s surface.
Synovial Membranes
composed of 2 layers, superficial epidermis and underlying dermis
Cutaneous Membrane (skin)
composed of a layer of simple squamous epithelium resting on a thin layer of areolar connective tissue.
Serous Membrane
composed of connective tissue without epithelial cells at all
Connective Tissue Membranes
composed of epithelium, a type of varies with the site resting membrane lamina propria
Mucous Membrane
composed of loose areolar connective tissues that contain no epithelial cells at all.
Synovial Membranes
covers the outside of the organs in that cavity
Visceral Layer
deep layer mostly composed of dense fibrous connective tissue.
Dermis
exposed to air and is a dry membrane.
