atopic dermatitis (generalized neurodermatitis)
characteristics of atopic dermatitis lesions
bilateral
symmetric
may occur anywhere on body
3 distinguishing features of atopic dermatitis
pruritus, dry skin, and sweat retention
Secondary infxn is MC
most important difference btwn atopic dermatitis and other eczemas
does NOT appear before 2 months old; often clears up at 2-3 y.o., but flare ups followed by remission may occur in childhood/puberty/adolescence and adulthood
