What is the Dermis?
The deep, connective tissue portion of the skin that contains blood vessels, glands, and hair follicles.
Hair follicle
The region of epi- dermis that has invaginated to accommodate the formation of a hair shaft
Arrector Pili Muscle
Contraction of this muscle pulls the hair to an erect position
Sebaceous (oil) Gland
Produce sebum, which has antibacterial, antifungal and lubricating properties.
Hair Bulb
The bulbous portion of the hair follicle, located within the dermis, that provides the material for hair production
Planum Nasale
The topmost plane of the muzzle in such species as cats, dogs, pigs, and sheep.
stratum basale or basal layer

What is the Hypodermis/Subcutaneous layer
The layer of adipose tissue located beneath the epidermis and dermis that insulates and protects the body.
stratum spinosum or spiny layer
contains several layers of cells which are still actively dividing. Thin Skin
stratum lucidum or clear layer
only found in very thick skin
stratum granulosum or granular layer
is named for having keratohyalin granuales and lamellated granuales Thin skin
stratum corneum or horny layer

Chestnuts
dark brown, found on the inside of each leg at the carpus (knee) of the forearm and at the taurus or hock of the hind leg
Ergots
