1
Q

Luminance

A

Luminance is what defines and controls the light and darkness of an image from any and all specific color ranges, additionally it focuses on managing, balancing and controlling the colors of an image. Also the brightness of a pixel.

Resolution

A

Resolution is used to describe the number of pixels used to display an image. Higher resolution=more pixels=better image

Q

Pixel

A

A pixel is the basic unit of color on a computer display or image. Its physical size depends on the resolution of the image. Each pixel’s specific color is based off of a blend of the colors red, green, and blue

Q

Color balance

A

Color balance is the global adjustment of the intensities of the colors (typically red, green, and blue primary colors). An important goal of this adjustment is to render specific colors – particularly neutral colors – correctly.

Q

Upsampling

A

Upsampling is when you take a low quality photo and add pixels to make the photo look better when it is printed. Upsampling is beneficial, but depending on the image you may not need or want to upsample. Each image is different. To upsample an image it is best if you know the size of the print you want and what kind of printer you will print this image from, this will help you decide how high the resolution needs to be on your image

Q

Downsampling

A

Downsampling is when an image (or digital audio) is made smaller. This can be done in a couple different ways. One way makes the image smaller by decreasing the overall pixel amount, and the other by decreasing the bit depth of an image

Q

Blend mode

A

Blend modes (or Mixing modes) in digital image editing are used to determine how two layers are blended into each other. The default blend mode in most applications is simply to hide the lower layer with whatever is present in the top layer

Q

PSD

A

PSD, which stands for Photoshop Document, is the default format that Photoshop uses for saving data. PSD is a proprietary file that allows the user to work with the images’ individual layers even after the file has been saved

Q

JPG

A

JPG files, also known as JPEG files, are a common file format for digital photos and other digital graphics. When JPG files are saved, they use “lossy” compression, meaning image quality is lost as file size decreases

Q

TIFF

A

A TIFF file, or TIF file, stands for Tagged Image File Format. TIF files are a common file format for images, especially those used on graphic design.
TIFF files can be saved without compression, or they can be compressed to lower file size, similar to JPG files. TIFF files are commonly used in print design and desktop publishing because they can store large, high quality images such as photos.

Q

PNG

A

PNG (pronounced ping as in ping-pong; for Portable Network Graphics) is a file format for image compression that, in time, is expected to replace the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) that is widely used on today’s Internet

17
Q

Clipping mask

A

A clipping mask is a group of layers to which a mask is applied. The bottommost layer, or base layer, defines the visible boundaries of the entire group. For example, suppose you have a shape in the base layer, a photograph in the layer above it, and text in the topmost layer.

18
Q

Heal

A

The spot healing brush is the default healing tool in Photoshop and can be used to clone areas from an image and blend the pixels from the sampled area seamlessly with the target area. The basic principle is that the texture from the sample area is blended with the color and luminosity surrounding wherever you paint.

19
Q

Clone

A

The Clone Stamp tool paints one part of an image over another part of the same image or over another part of any open document that has the same color mode. You can also paint part of one layer over another layer. The Clone Stamp tool is useful for duplicating objects or removing a defect in an image.

20
Q

Dodge

A

Dodge tool is used to brighten parts of an image.

21
Q

Burn

A

Burn tool is used to darken parts of an image.

22
Q

Brush Tool

A

The Brush tool is a basic painting tool. It works like a traditional drawing tool by applying the color using strokes. It’s located in the standard Tool Bar and its default shortcut is the letter B.

23
Q

crop

A

Cropping is removing unwanted parts of an image to display only what you want to see (like removing an unsightly edge to a picture). After selecting the portion of the image that you want to keep and applying the crop, the unselected parts are deleted. Cropping is not used for zooming in on or altering the resolution of the images that you’re working with

24
Q

brightness

A

Brightness is a relative expression of the intensity of the energy output of a visible light source

25
Q

contrast

A

The difference between darks and lights, and the distance between brights and darks.

26
Q

adjustment layers

A

Adjustment Layers are one of the more powerful features of Photoshop. The purpose of Adjustment Layers is to allow you to make adjustments to your image, both globally and locally, in a non-destructive manner

27
Q

selection tools

A

Adobe Photoshop also offers a number of selection tools: Quick Mask, Rectangular marquee, Elliptical marquee, Lasso, Polygonal Lasso, Magnetic Lasso, Magic Wand. The most efficient way to make a selection in Adobe Photoshop is to use Quick Mask mode.
