Massed
repeating the skill or action on numerous occasions with little or no rests
e.g: a swimmer swimming lengths over and over again
Whole
When the exercise is performed as a whole
e.g: how to pass in football
Part
The type of practise that breaks down individual skills
e.g: how to do a somersault
Whole-part-whole
When the exercise is performed as a whole then broken down into individual skills, then performed as a whole again
e.g: triple jump
Varied
a type of training where the environment changes so that the performer can experience the skill in a range of conditions
e.g:
Fixed
stable and predictable practise environment, with conditions that remain unchanged
e.g:
Progressive part
Practising part of the skill in order to learn a routine
e.g: learning a dance routine
Distributed
involves rests in-between sets of the routine or activity to get feedback
e.g: netball shooting practise for 15 minutes then rest for 5 minutes and repeat
