What are open and closed skills
Open- when the environment is unstable and changing
Closed- when the environment is stable and unchanging
What are gross and fine skills
Gross- major body movements
Fine- minor body movements
What are discrete, serial and continuous skills
Discrete- short and brief skill. It has a clear start and end
Serial- the first skill triggers another
Continuous- movement is ongoing and there is no clear beginning and end
What are externally paced and self paced skills
Externally paced- the rate of movements are controlled by others
Self paced- the rate of movement is controlled by the player
What are low and high organisation skills
Low- can be broken into subroutines
High- can not be broken into subroutines
What are simple and complex skills
Simple- requires a few decisions being made during the game
Complex- relies on decisions being made during the performance
What is transfer
Transfer is the effects of learning one skill helps learning the other
What is positive transfer
When learning one skill helps learning another
What is negative transfer
When learning one skill hinders learning another
What is zero transfer
When learning one skill has no impact when learning another
What is bilateral transfer
When learning one skill and pass it from limb to limb
What are the types of presenting practice
Whole
Whole part whole
Progressive / chaining
What is whole practice
Performing the skill in its entirety without breaking it into sub routines
What is whole part whole practice
Performing the skill in its entirety. Then the weak parts are isolated and worked on before putting the whole skill back together

Practicing the first part of the skill and gradually adding the rest of the skill on
