What is an open skill?
Skill which is affected by the environment / eg pass in football
What is a closed skill?
A skill which is not affected by the environment / eg tennis serve
What is a gross skill?
Movement involving large muscle groups / eg rugby tackle
What is a fine skill?
Small delicate movements / eg flick shot in badminton
What’s is a self paced skill?
You chose when to start it / eg bowling
What is an externally paced skill?
You don’t have control of the start of the movement / eg return in tennis
What is a complex skill?
High cognitive load / eg cricket shot
What is a simple skill?
Small cognitive load / eg high jump
What is a high organisation skill?
Can’t be broken down into sub sections/ eg running
What is a low organisation skill?
Can be split into lots of subsections / eg triple jump
What is a discrete skill?
Has a clear beginning and end / eg bowl in cricket
What is a continuous skill?
No beginning or end / eg swimming
What is a serial skill?
Made up of several parts / eg boxing combo
What is part practice?
Skill broken down into subroutines. Then practiced separately then put together.
What is whole practice?
The movement is learned in the complete form (holistically).
