Sketches, Drawings & Prints - Part B Flashcards
What material section line is used for a majority of parts?
Cast Iron
The arrows on the ends of cutting plane lines are used to:
Show direction to view section.
Which 2 sectional views never require a cutting plane line?
1) Broken out
2) Removed
Name 3 or more of the elements you can use to define a taper.
1) Large diameter of taper
2) Small diameter of taper
3) Length of taper
4) Taper per foot
5) Taper per inch
6) Taper ratio
7) Included or centre line angle
How can an S shape be distinguished from a W shape?
By the flange shape.
Which two shapes have tapered flanges?
C and S
What is the proper specification for an unequal leg angle iron that has legs of 60mm and 40 mm and is 5 mm thick?
60 x 40 x 5
The seven typical sectional views are…
1) Full section
2) Half section
3) Removed section
4) Revolved section
5) Broken out section
6) Offset section
7) Aligned section
Define: Full Section
With a full section the cutting plane is straight and goes completely through the workpiece, hence the name full.
Define: Half Section
As with the full section, the name half section explains it all. Here the cutting plane line goes through only half of the workpiece, allowing the draftsperson to show you both the inside and outside of the workpiece at the same time.
Define: Removed
This section does not use a cutting plane line, as it is mainly used to show the cross-sectional shape of a workpiece. A centreline is used to show where the section was taken from.
Define: Revolved
A revolved section is similar to a removed section, but the cross-sectional shape of the object is revolved 90° and drawn directly onto the workpiece or shown broken away.
Define: Broken out
If only a small portion of a part needs to be shown sectioned, a broken out section works well. A broken line is used to isolate the piece that is to be sectioned, hence the name broken out.
Define: Offset
The term offset is used because the cutting plane line changes direction 90° several times to cut through other features that are to be shown in section. If this were not done, more than one sectional view would be required to show these other features.
Define: Aligned
As with the offset section, the purpose of the aligned section is to show a sectional view of many different features on one sectional drawing. Unlike the offset section, where the cutting plane line is turned 90°, the cutting plane line is rotated through various angles to align all the features.
