Skeletal System Flashcards
Function of Skeletal System
- Gives body shape and support
- Allows movement
- Protects internal organs
- Makes blood cells
- Stores calcium and other minerals
Tendon
Attach our muscles to our bone
Ligament
Attaches bone to bone
Bone marrow
Makes white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets
Cartilage
Tissue attached to bones to reduce friction
Immoveable joint
Located in the skull and is fixed
Hinge Joint
Located in elbow and knee and open and close movement
Ball and Socket Joint
Located in the shoulder and hip and has the most movement
Sliding Joint
Located in wrists and ankles and has a gliding past one another movement
Pivot Joint
Located in neck and has a turning around a point movement
Homeostasis in Skeletal System
Maintains calcium levels in the body
Skeletal and Circulatory System working together
Bone marrow makes red, white blood cells and platelets
Stimuli/ Response in Skeletal System
Muscles needs calcium/calcium leaves the bone
