Skeletal System Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two divisions of the skeletal system?
A
Axial skeleton and appendicular system
2
Q
What are the locations and functions of the axial skeleton?
A
- Locations - head, neck, torso
- Functions - protect internal organs, some stability and movement but limited
3
Q
What are the locations and functions of the appendicular skeleton?
A
- Locations - upper limbs (shoulders/arms), lower limbs (hips/legs)
- Functions - facilitate mobility and movement, provide stability and interact with external environment
4
Q
Describe the structure o the spine
A
- 26 irregular bones divided into five sections:
- cervical vertebrae
- thoracic vertebrae
- lumbar vertebrae
- sacrum
- coccyx
- larger as they do down as more weight to support
5
Q
Describe the structure of the upper appendage and girdle?
A
- Pectoral girdle attaches the upper limb to the axial skeleton and consists of:
- clavicle (collarbone) and scapula (shoulder bone)
- upper limb consists of:
- humerus, radius and ulna
6
Q
Describe the structure of the lower appendage and girdle
A
- Pelvis girdle attaches the lower limb to the axial skeleton and consists of three fused bones: ilium (hips), ischium and pubis
- lower limbs consists of femur (thigh), patella (kneecap), tibia and fibula, foot bones
7
Q
What are the steps of motion analysis?
A
Data capture, labelling, post labelling, processing
