- Framework of body
- Lightweight and moldable
- Soft tissues hang from bones

A
- Boney “boxes protecting delicate structures
Ex: ribcage protects heart and lungs, skull protects brain

A
- Muscles are anchored to bone
- Muscles pull on the bone causing movement

Mineral Storage in bones
A
- Maintains blood levels of calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and zinc
- More blood = more minerals stored
- Less blood = less minerals stored

- hemo (blood) + poiesis (to make) = hemopoiesis (to make blood)
