A compression fracture is when the bone is crushed and this is common in porous bones (osteoporotic bones of older people.)

A depressed fracture is when the bones is pressed inwards and is common in skull fractures.

An impacted fracture is when the bone ends are forced into each other and this is common when people break their fall with outstretched arms.
