Q

Types of muscles?

A

Muscle is *the largest type of tissue *in the human body

The human body have three types of muscle tissue

These are skeletal muscles, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscles

The three types of muscle tissue are capable of developing tension and producing movement through contraction

Yet, each type of muscle tissue is different in structure and functionality

Q

Classification of musclesin terms of striation orvoluntary control?

A

Skeletal and cardiac muscles are striated muscles. Smooth muscles are unstriated

Striation can be visualized under a light microscope as alternating dark bands (caused by myocin thick filaments) and light bands (caused by actin thin filaments) in striated muscles

Skeletal muscles are innervated by the somatic nervous system and are subject to voluntary control

Cardiac and *smooth muscles *are innervated by the autonomic nervous system - involuntary

Q

what is motor unit?

A

The motor unit is a single alpha motor neuron
and all/ a number of the skeletal muscle fibres it innervates

Q

The number of muscle fibres per motor unit depends on what?

A

The number of muscle fibres per motor unit depends on the functions served by the muscle.
when power is more important than precision, it will be more muscle fibres that it innervates
